Keeping Learning Going When Classrooms Close

For the founders of Metaschool AI, learning shouldn’t stop just because school does.

Richard Duodu and Gifty Afful founded Metaschool AI with the belief that every Ghanaian student should have continuous access to quality learning, regardless of where they live or what device they use. Their work focuses on addressing the learning gaps created by Ghana’s double-track school system, which leaves 1.2 million students without access to classrooms and teachers for four months each year.

Metaschool AI is an accredited online high school delivering AI-powered voice and video lessons based on Ghana’s national curriculum. The venture is designed to work around another barrier facing many students: limited internet access. Through Voice AI and USSD technology, students can use basic mobile phones to access learning and record verifiable milestones without an internet connection.

The approach is already reaching 62,000 active users, according to the venture. By making learning available during periods when students are unable to attend school in person, Metaschool AI is working to maintain academic continuity while providing greater visibility into student progress throughout the year.
